When Gabe Goldberg opened
Majestic Furniture in 1924, he had no idea it would be
passed through four generations of his family to become
a Modesto tradition. The first pieces of furniture sold
by Gabe, and his step-son Fred, were from the local hotels
that they had refurnished.
They soon realized that there
was a real market for used furniture. The early Majestic
store on 10th street also sold everything from refurbished
appliances to lanterns to dining sets. Over the years
it evolved from selling modest furniture and household
goods, to the better quality products that are featured
today.
The current owner of Majestic
is Gabe's great-grandson, Mark Cushway. With the vision
of his father, Stan Cushway, the store has grown to aproximately
30,000 square feet of showroom space and 11,000 square
feet of warehouse.
